How To Distress Denim Jeans

How To Distress Jeans

Pre-distressed can be very expensive so I’ve created a tutorial on how you can make these yourself! You just need a few things and then you can customize your jeans, shorts, jacket, or anything else made with denim.

What You’ll Need:
Pair of jeans
Tweezers
Scissors
Chalk (optional)
Sand paper (optional)

Directions:
1. Take your scissors and cut a 2″ slit horizontally across your jeans.  I usually make 3-4 slits in a row a 1/2″ apart.  Optional: Put on your jeans and roughly mark the area you want to distress. The cuts don’t need to be equal in length or in width. For a natural looking rip, start the hole with short slices, gradually create longer ones midway, and end with a short cut (so that it looks like a diamond, versus a perfect rectangle).

2. Start to tease out each white thread with your tweezers.  These run from side to side, the blue ones go up and down.

3. Once you’ve teased out enough of the long white strands, you’ll notice that a frayed fringe will have formed. Repeat step 2 for each strip.

** You can also use sand paper to wear away the fibers.  You just need to rub the sand paper back and forth until the fibers frey.
